Learning Through the Story of Alton Haypun

Alton Haypun At War offers a rich, immersive way to explore life on Britain's Home Front during the Second World War. Built around a fictional village, the project uses letters, artefacts, and everyday experiences to help learners understand how war shaped ordinary lives.

This is not a worksheet-led scheme or a fixed programme. Instead, it provides flexible, story-driven material that can be used in classrooms, tutoring sessions, or home education, alongside the main village narrative.

Alton Haypun At War makes complex topics like conflict, sacrifice, empathy and resilience easier to understand and discuss for young learners, while naturally supporting curriculum goals by encouraging critical thinking, and historical inquiry.

Alton Haypun At War also opens the door to cross-curricular work in literacy, ethics, and citizenship. Its accessible language and character-driven narratives enable the engagement of a wide range of learners, sparking meaningful classroom discussion and helping learners connect emotionally and intellectually with the realities of life on Britain's Home Front during the Second World War.
